Welcome to the Multiphase Transport Research Lab lead by Dr. Xiaoyu Tang in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department at Northeastern University!

Multiphase transport is ubiquitous in our daily life, ranging from aerosol generation and particle accumulation. Our group focuses on interdisciplinary research at the intersection of multiphase flow, soft matter, microfluidics, passive/active colloidal systems, and reactive flow. We aim to unveil the underlying controlling physics and provide design principles and innovative solutions to tackle the outstanding challenges. Our target applications lie in important sectors spanning from manufacturing, energy, environment to healthcare: additive manufacturing, material synthesis and processing in flow, oil/gas recovery and remediation, drug delivery, bioprinting, and forensic study. We combine experimental techniques (high-speed imaging, interferometry, fluorescence microscopy), theoretical analysis, and computations (CFD, ML/AI) for fundamental understanding and technology development. We are always open to potential collaborations!

Openings

We are always looking for motivated students at all levels to conduct research in the lab. Please check the open positions page and reach out to Prof. Tang at x.tang@northeastern.edu for further discussions.
